SEAT Sport is a strategic point in the SEAT industrial complex, located halfway between the factory and the Technical Centre. The vital raw material, the SEAT León and Ibiza SC models, arrives from the factory, ready to undergo massive changes. The vehicles are taken apart, strengthened and lightened, and their performance notably improved in order to make them into true racing cars. The Technical Centre provides SEAT Sport with technological support for carrying out static tests and simulations, enabling the development and fine-tuning periods to be shortened..
In order to carry out this process, which is completely manual and requires a high level of technical expertise, SEAT Sport has ideally equipped facilities, 5,300m² of which is occupied by the highly specialised mechanical workshops. The central section of the technical area is occupied by the final assembly area, around which are situated the following areas: transmission, suspension, mechanisation, bodywork, painting, fibres and composites, accessories, engines, electrical systems, metrology and welding.
The production rhythm is very intense with the objective being to have the vehicles ready for pre-season tests for the brand’s customers throughout the world. On the other hand, from March to October, production stops and competition begins. SEAT Sport provides technical support for drivers and teams using SEAT cars, in races throughout the world.
In order to do this, SEAT Sport’s trailers travel to all the European circuits fully equipped to carry out maintenance work. The trailers move the racing cars, a full stock of parts, and the tools needed to work just as efficiently as at headquarters. For competitions outside of Europe to which the trailers cannot travel, the equipment is sent by air or sea in special containers. SEAT Sport also takes staff support to each WTCC race, as well as engineers who provide support to the brand’s customers in other countries and championships. The objective, which requires highly complex logistics, is to ensure that each car, driver and mechanic is in the right place at the right time. Only then can SEAT compete at the highest level and be guaranteed success.
